From Abandoned Place to Destination: Our Site Potential Study Process

Conceptual Design Study - Visual exploration of the adaptive reuse potential of a historic site.

Across Europe, thousands of abandoned buildings sit quietly in villages, hillsides and forgotten corners of the countryside.

Old olive mills. Farmhouses. Stone ruins. Empty courtyards.

Many owners cannot afford a complete renovation. Others simply do not know what these places could become.

Yet sometimes, transformation requires far less than we imagine.

A few native plants.

A mural.

Some carefully placed lighting.

A long wooden table.

A visual identity.

A story.

Suddenly, a forgotten place becomes a destination.

A location for a conference on circular economy.

A gathering space for a local wine tasting.

A venue for a book launch.

A retreat for a team building workshop.

A natural cosmetic brand presentation.

A place where people reconnect — with each other and with the landscape around them.

Outdoor environments naturally encourage conversation, curiosity and openness.

They slow people down. They create memorable experiences that no conference room can reproduce.

At AdGrafics, we explore how visual communication can extend beyond screens and printed materials.

We imagine places before they exist.

Through concept visuals, landscape design, murals, event identity and storytelling, we help reveal the hidden potential of forgotten spaces.

Sometimes this means helping an organisation create an extraordinary event.

Sometimes it means helping a family rediscover the value of a property that has been in their family for generations.

Sometimes it simply means showing what is possible.

Because Europe does not lack beautiful places.

Many of them are simply waiting to be seen again.

How AdGrafics Transforms Places into Experiences

Every project starts with a simple question:

What could this place become?

Whether you are organising a conference, a cultural event, a corporate retreat, a wine tasting, a book launch or a sustainability gathering, the venue plays a fundamental role in the experience people will remember.

Our role is to reveal the hidden potential of places and transform them into meaningful destinations.

1. Site Discovery & Potential Assessment

Some clients already have a location.

Others come to us with an event concept and ask us to help identify suitable sites.

Depending on the project, we work from photographs, architectural plans and local documentation, or conduct an on-site visit when required.

We assess:

  • existing structures and buildings

  • accessibility and visitor flows

  • landscape characteristics

  • ecological opportunities

  • heritage value

  • technical constraints

  • available budget

The objective is to understand what is realistically achievable while preserving the character and authenticity of the place.

2. Site Potential Study

We then develop a Site Potential Study.

This phase includes:

  • concept sketches

  • visual simulations

  • atmosphere references

  • moodboards

  • event scenarios

  • visitor experience concepts

  • preliminary landscape ideas

This allows clients to visualise possibilities before making significant investments.

Often, places that initially appear unusable reveal remarkable opportunities through a different perspective.

3. Landscape & Ecological Design

Nature is never treated as decoration.

It becomes an integral part of the project.

We design landscapes that strengthen the identity of the place while respecting local conditions.

Our interventions may include:

  • drought-tolerant Mediterranean planting

  • low-maintenance gardens

  • biodiversity enhancement

  • sensory and experiential planting

  • outdoor gathering spaces

  • pathways and circulation

  • shade structures and natural comfort

Our goal is to create beautiful spaces that require limited water and long-term maintenance.

4. Creative Direction & Visual Identity

Once the atmosphere and narrative of the place are defined, we develop the visual language of the project.

This may include:

  • event branding

  • visual identity systems

  • invitations

  • programmes

  • brochures

  • signage

  • banners

  • presentations

  • social media communication

  • environmental graphics

Every communication element is designed to reflect the spirit of the location.

5. Murals & Artistic Interventions

Many projects benefit from artistic features that create a memorable identity.

We develop bespoke mural concepts and artistic installations inspired by the history, landscape and purpose of the site.

The artistic concepts are developed during the design phase and can later be executed by specialised mural artists and craftspeople.

6. Project Coordination

For clients who require implementation support, we can coordinate the different creative components of the project.

This may include:

  • landscape implementation

  • planting coordination

  • mural production

  • visual communication deployment

  • supplier coordination

  • creative supervision

The objective is to ensure coherence between the place, the landscape, the event and its communication.

More Than an Event Venue

We believe Europe already contains thousands of extraordinary places waiting to be rediscovered.

Sometimes a few plants, a mural, thoughtful lighting and a strong visual identity are enough to transform an abandoned site into a destination people will remember for years.

Our mission is to help reveal that potential.

AdGrafics is not an architectural practice.

We focus on site visioning, creative placemaking, landscape concepts, visual identity and visitor experience design.

When structural renovations, technical studies or architectural permits are required, we collaborate with architects, engineers and local specialists to ensure the project is developed according to local regulations.
